Tacoma Chiropractor Dr. Dean Simmons
“In larger families there is often one child that seems to be the sickest. Well, that child was me.”
I was the one with convulsions and high fevers as a small child. If there was a “bug” to catch, it had my name on it. I began vomiting with migraine headaches at age 8 and the doctors told my parents that it was “internal stress”. I was hospitalized with a heart problem at age 17 and at age 18 I could not stand up after a basketball game due to low back pain. After being told that it was just “muscle spasm” my parents took me a chiropractor. Six weeks later my migraines were gone, my heart condition vanished and I was running track for my high school.
I had always wanted to be a doctor since I was a little boy. However, my decision to be a dentist was radically altered after my chiropractic experience. It didn’t make sense to spend my life in someones mouth if I could help their entire body with natural chiropractic.
A Chiropractor’s Education
After deciding to follow chiropractic as my vocation I ended up graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport Iowa. As a very special side note, I went to Palmer with my father for one year before he too graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic three years ahead of me.
I have since gone on to receive extensive post graduate education and continue to thrive on learning and applying any procedure that will further benefit our patients. Anything that is good for my family becomes an essential part of our care for all patients.
Disease is an Absence of Health
I believe that God’s plan for our life is health. We simply have to understand the essence of His natural plan and follow that path. Disease is just not something we get. Our genes are designed for health. Disease occurs when we lose the normal function and healthy genetic expression of our cells. Disease is an absence of health.
The only ways you can become sick is through toxicity, deficiency or trauma. The only three ways to become toxic or deficient is through what we eat, how we move and how we think. Wellness can only be attained by removing “toxicities” and “deficiencies”. Chiropractic is an absolute ingredient of a wellness lifestyle.
Natural Health Care
I have been blessed to be in this profession for 40 years. It still thrills my heart and my spirit to be able help so many Tacoma residents of all ages have their quality of life increased through totally natural Chiropractic health care. Patients frequently ask, “When are you going to retire?” My answer remains the same. “When I lose my passion I will retire for your sake and mine”. Right now, I am still having a wonderful time working with wonderful people and I believe that I am right where God wants me to be.
On a Personal Note
My wife Lana and I have been married for over 36 years. We have two sons, Dean and Tom and a daughter Jamie. They are all married, and with their spouses, Bonnie, Heather and Andy, have given us 5 beautiful grandchildren… and yes, they are all under regular chiropractic care.
We love to travel, but our main enjoyment centers around our family. Our favorite get-a-way is to go to our cabin in the mountains to laugh, hike, ride bikes, play in the snow and ride snowmobiles. I also enjoy golf, especially if I beat my one son and son-in-law.
